Not exactly sure how anyone can be so positive in saying that the Mieses is bad, especially upon examination of rating...

It's purely transpositional, where white enters a normal opening (such as the King's Indian Attack) that does not receive as much grief. It could also be used to play a reversed defense, such as the Pirc/Modern -- these are acceptable for black, so why not as white?

Personally, I'd never move a pawn only one square in the opening. Seems way too passive to me.
