what to do in your first tournament

First, try to find somebody who had been in a tournament before to help you out. If not, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to the appropriate section's pairings, then find your board number
  2. When the TD (tournament director) says you can begin your game, shake hands and start.
  3. When you are done, depending on what kind of tournament you are in, you either raise your hand and the TD will come and record your score, or you go to the wall and post your own score.
  4. If your opponent is not there at the starting time, you start his clock until he comes.
