Submitted by melzerh on Sat, 11/01/2008 at 3:57pm.

This is a variation I made. If it exists tell me.

If its a bad opening tell me. It probably is but oh well.

this is quite good for white after an attack down the kingside of say g4, h4 etc but if i were white then i would look to swap off the white bishop because  most of white's pawns are in good positions on white squares

its a good opening but I found it similar to stonewall. Bishop on black square seems hampered and all you can do is a pawn storm on the f,g,h. What black can do is break the center by 1. Na5 attacking the white Bishop, then C3.

watch out for Nf6 then Nxe4 if you're not careful - look up the Damiano Defence

I'm sorely tempted as black to play Qh4+ to get your king to take a stroll. Your kingside pieces will then be locked up.

The positives in your opening for white:-

1. The king is situated in a safe place surrounded by white pieces.

2. A strong pawnstorm can be launched on the black king using your f,g and h pawns.

3. The white rook on h1 will fully co-operate with the pawn storm.

4. Black's white square bishop is made useless due to your solid pawn structure.

5. As pointed out by zipple713, there are high chances of Blacks black square bishop pinning the queen to the king as it is very active. Hence i would advice you to play king to b1 and then to a1. After this, you can play your knight to b1 and play something like d4 and strengthen your hold of the centre.

The negatives of the opening are for white:-

1. Since all your pawns are on white squares, black's black square bishop is very very active.

2. White's light square bishop is very inactive due to his pawn structure.

3. White's light square bishop may get trapped in the later stages of the game.

Some plans in middle game for white:-

1. Look at 1.5.

2. Exchange your knight for black's dark square bishop.

3. Try exchanging your light square bishop for another minor piece.

4. Bring your other rook to g1 as it would greatly help in launching a pawn storm.

I agree that this is a very playable system unless you are very careful!

OK, I typed something up but it wouldn't post. In short, it's a good opening. No piece en prise, other pieces have some difficulty, not much of a way to stop the system. Watch queen being pinned to the king. Nd4 is blacks best reply in my opinion. Black's white-squared bishop will have a long day. Very playable. Look at the Game Explorer to see if it's been used.
