Dawid Przepiorka Plays a Noteworthy Piano

Submitted by GreenLaser on Fri, 10/17/2008 at 1:41pm.

Dawid Przepiorka (1880-1940) was the winner of the 1st Polish Chess Championship in 1926, which was held in Warsaw. In 1939, Poland was occupied by Germany and the Soviet Union. In 1940, Przepiorka was arrested by the Germans while he was in a chess club in Warsaw. In a nearby concentration camp, he was a victim in a mass killing. Theodor Von Scheve (1851-1922) was a German master and writer. The following game displays the Giuocco Piano or Italian Game. This requires White to play 3.Bc4. For many years, chess writers would say that playing the Ruy Lopez or Spanish Game, which uses 3.Bb5, gives White better chances to hold the iniative. In recent years, many Lopez players are avoiding the Marshall Attack by playing more cautiously or slower. Some are playing the Lopez less and varying their openings more. Giuocco Piano means the slow or quiet game. The Lopez or Spanish bishop starts on b5, but often goes to the same diagonal as the Italian bishop, the a2-g8 diagonal. These two openings use some common

ideas.

Nice rook sac at 21 to regain it again 9 moves later and then the win..! Wonderful game to watch. Love the Giuocco Piano. First opening I ever learned.

santiR wrote, "not so good a game. mistakes by both sides." I saw this game without notes. Then it looked more impressive to me. For example, 21.Rf6 was a move I first thought would get one or two exclamation marks. I decided on a question mark. A way to learn is to study a game and question the moves. Now the readers can question the moves and my notes.
