Breaking the Pin

Submitted by benws on Fri, 11/28/2008 at 2:56pm.

So i'm reading a magazine, and i found this game. It's a very nice one, showing how to punish your opponent if he carelessly sets up an annoying pin. White breaks it in nice fashion, giving up his queen, to force a king hint all the way down to his own side of the board.

EDIT: i'm actually concerned about PRIVACY, guys. sigh...the magazine was CHESS LIFE FOR KIDS.

What an amazing play on it... and it must have seemed at first that white completely overlooked his queen!

I wouldn't worry about it. If it's in a magazine it's up for discussion. If you google "Vucinic vs. Durovic" and "Yugoslavia 1984" you'd probably find this exact game anyways.

intresting game but Qxf4 saves the game with white having 3 pieces against 5. black was to attached to his queen and not careful enough with his king

(on move 16)

okay, I was wrong.  In my defense black is screwed.

Recently played a game where similar situation presented itself.  I did not plan for it mind you. But I mated the guy in like 8 moves and it opened my eyes to such sacrificial gambits for future plays!! This was Genius!! This guy never saw it coming!! Very Nice Thanks for Sharing!!

Good game pal, u're much more creative than me, occasionally, I often fall in that really furious and annoy pin (Knight with King, Knight with Queen), really make a stuck on my knight, but I've never seen anyone could break that pin (except preventing the bishop pin it by advancing up two of the corner pawn where the knight deploy) and has a far vision, forecast like ya, excellent, super extraordinary (if u're kid age)!!!......

I really enjoyed this short game. I often encounter such situations in blitz games, but never have I seen the king chased so far away from his help. Outstanding!!!

About 7...Bg4, I was told to wait 'til your opponent castles kingside before this pin is applied. I think 7...Bb4 with an eventual O-O would have been far better for Black.
