An Unpleasant Reply

Continuing my coverage of the 1935 World Championship match... Wink

After 19 games, the score was in Alekhine's favor (10.5-8.5). To get back into contention, Euwe was in serious need of a win. And here, he shows his fighting spirit in an excellent endgame where his opponent's pawn-grabbing was met with a terrible pin.

Euwe was an under-rated champion.  He may arguably be the weakest World Champion, but that's still a title that many players would be happy to have!!!

P-M-B: The point of Ra2 is so that after Bb5 (black's planned move) white can just play cxb5! since the Bd5 covers the Ra2.

dear P-M-B,

If he had done anything else, white could have taken the pawn on a7, his only passed pawn.

Ok Ok... So I'm a chess tard who hopes to improve. Dosen't black pin himself with Ra6??? What good is Ra2 except not to remove the pin that black put himself in? I really hope one of you good players will explain this to me.

Wow, White's pin really had a damaging effect on Black's play.
